I have been there done that and the bastard dropped dead of diabetes. telling her to leave won't sink in until she really wants to all you can really do now is be an ear and listen to her, for some reason there is this whole attachment bull shit stocker sydrom when someone is with someone who abuses them.
There is only really 2 ways to get away from them and no matter which one you choose it's not pretty but what happens in both choices of what you choose to get away from the bastard is the support you have around it's one thing to get away from them but it takes a lot more power to make sure you do not end up with another one.
Choice ONE - is having your friend or family member call the police on the person who is beating them, and actually take them away from the situation yes they will hate you for a while but if your really their friend or family member you would do that if you cared about them
Don't go with the bull shit of women's shelters or any community service programs they have too many people to deal with on thier plate you will just get lost in the shuffle and end up right back in the I have been beaten by someome i love list.
and Choice TWO - is to pretty much get yourself in the point of no return, and find some little strenght or hope left to beat the crap back out of the bastard, and that part is not always easy if your support system is not available.
What women' seem to forget and what I forgot when I was in abusive relationship is they don't love you if they hit you, and if you stay there you WILL end up DEAD
