The DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) lays out a very specific procedure that
any web host is REQUIRED to follow regarding claims of copyright infringement.
it would have been illegal for Mojohost to take the site down based on some post
you made on a message board somwhere. The procedure that is required is for the
copyright owner to send a specific type of notice to the host. If you, as an unaffected
third party, would like to get involved you would need to contact the copyright holder
so that they could exercise their rights. Without contacting the copyright holder, you
in fact have no way of even knowing if there is a copyright violation or not.
