i agree about it not hurting your website, i disagree with the 2nd part ;)
its common sense that a linback on an index page of a site is way more worth than a linkback buried on a subpage of a site.

Lets say you have one empty linkspot left on your site and you have the choice between a linkback on a pr4 index page or a linkback on a pr4 site, but on a subpage of that site. Which would you choose?
