The world is rather different from what it was 200, 100 or 50 years ago. In 1970, a female British PM would probably have seemed rather unlikely. Nine years later, it was reality. Same thing for Angela Merkel, Indira Gandhi, Michelle Bachelet, Tansu Çiller, etc.
I'm not too sure about Hillary's chances, but it really doesn't seem at all unlikely that the US will get a female president in the next few decades.
