WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - A major hotel chain is going smoke-free next month and will add $200 to the bill of anyone who violates the policy, an executive said Monday.
Westin Hotels & Resorts is banning smoking indoors and poolside at all 77 of its properties in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, said senior Vice President Sue Brush. Smokers will have to go to a designated outdoor area, she said.
Enica Thompson, spokeswoman for the American Hotel & Lodging Association, said Westin is the first major American chain to go smoke-free and predicted that "many of the other hotel chains will probably want to see how it works out for Westin" before following suit.
Well... they probably don't have an all-clear on having 'PussyCash' plastered across their lobby floors either... so here's HOPING they can cut Internext some slack!

Ironically this will also take them of the AAA prefered list.
Julius I would have to disagree-
If you recall- Roger V had a long thread about AVN charging extra for models and people were in an uproar about it
Not the broke ass webmasters either- People like Ron from CC Bill and other big players were up in arms about it-
What do you think half of the webmasters who get dinged an extra $200 for smoking in their rooms will do?
The sad reality is that 80% of the webmasters I see at shows smoke-
The other 20% smokes only when they drink at tradeshows
:-))
LOL
It's funny but it's almost 100% true.
I could take it or leave it these days I am not a slave to the cigarettes although I still do smoke, but hell- even if I wanted to go outside by the pool to have one I can't?
That sounds a little crazy doesn't it?
Also AVN has no control over this- It's unfortunate- but i have to think this will affect how many people will attend this year.

KB , now you are mixing up the 2 situations.....stick to one issue... the other one can be rectified I am sure , if they get enough complaints about it, they will do something.
I don't know if it'd make such a big difference. There's always an uproar when it's banned in bars, and they whine they'll lose business. And for the first while, maybe. But then everyone accepts it. No one is gonna stop drinking and partying!
I would love to come home from a show without all my clothes smelling of smoke. That would be awesome. I realize that's unreasonable, but for my room the hotel restaurant and lobby to not smell of smoke would be almost as cool.
The August show is the best show of the year. They better have it. Although, from what I observed, AVN is bombing out at this venue. Less sponsors, less booths sold.

I agree Brad, I really like the August show much better than the January show. Its nice to have everyone in one hotel and I truly get a lot of business done. I know AVN didn't sell very many booths last summer, but they sold every other square inch of the hotel :-).
I am so frustrated with Vegas Internext, I haven't even booked my trip yet, especially irritating that you can't get a room at any nearby hotel. I have always gone to the Vegas show because it was THE show of the year, but I just don't feel it this year...maybe KB is having an effect on me.
Of course, part of it is Sleazy makes a really solid case for blowing off Vegas and going to the beach...

alot of us dont want to deal with this show. has nothing to do with avn, and everything to do with ces. i'm done voicing my opinion about it. all 3 shows at the same time? i hate it.
i'm doing costa rica and if at all possibly sleazys deal in d.r.
I doubt the hotel staff will be that strict. It's one thing to make it a policy and another to expect your thousands of workers to act on it. I really doubt they will be smoke nazis. In the lobby and pool areas they will probably just request you put it out if they spot you. I've seen people get away with smoking indoors at California shows which is illegal here in California.
