From the article:

"it does not prove that low LDL cholesterol levels can increase cancer risk. "

"While this highlights an association between low levels of LDL and cancer, this is not the same as saying that low LDL or statin use increases the risk of cancer," said June Davison, cardiac nurse.

"There is overwhelming evidence that lowering LDL cholesterol through statins saves lives by preventing heart attacks and strokes. These findings do not change the message that the benefits of taking statins greatly outweigh any potential risks."

They get their stupid headline which gets you to read a nothing finding. There will always be singular conflicting studies.. thats why there are so many of these stupid articles.

Almost no scientific reports that get published in the mainstream press, print, tv or otherwise are accurate at all and are even just plain false. Anything that may be slightly controversial or against the status quo is sensationalized beyond recognition, in order to grab views/readers/whatever.

Truth is, most scientists are sitting in their labs, shaking their head in embarrassment when these articles with headlines like this, get published from their work. You really need to read actual scientific publications to get some accurate scientific data.
