if your going towards the $1 end as uve stipulated then this maybe a real bargain its also running windows newest operating system DOS 3.1

Thanks! I'm not sure about the vaio's because I've heard a few horror stories, but I'll check them out. Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

i have a toshiba satellite pro - and i'm quite happy with it. core duo processor, 1 gb ram, 120 gb hd and the most important thing: a matt display, not one of those where you just see yourself as soon as there is a little bit of sun

very important! my old toshiba has that, it's awful. $1500 mirror.
