I could be wrong, but I THINK if you just go electric you're stuck with putting in a heat pump for heat. At least that's what I have for an all electric house. Personally I liked the natural gas I used to have. I also have propane but it just runs an auxiliary heater, gas logs and full house generator.

I would say to go with gas too. Also, depending on where you live, if you have hurricane problems like we do in south florida you'll still have the ability to cook with gas once the power is out for weeks (unless of course you have a generator). Water boils quicker using gas as well. I would say all around that gas is better.

Yep so was propane back on the place. This place has fule oil I think, well it has to go thats for sure. Yea Gas it is, and if I have a problem I'll take some Gas-X

I live rural, and I am all electric. My energy costs are much cheaper than all of my neighbors (they are propane).
Propane and Natural gas have shot up in price to being stupidly expensive, plus all of my rooms in my house have
baseboard heat with a thermostat in each room so you have zone control
opposed to 1 thermostat for the whole house. The only rooms I heat are the living-room and kitchen, the
bedrooms are all shutoff and a bit cooler which is nice for sleeping.
Winter humidity is controlled by venting the clothes dryer into the house (filter
screen captures the lint). Another benefit is my sinuses don't get all dried out
because of a forced air furnace.

The downside is I don't have ductwork, so for air conditioning I have to use window units.

For me, electric is best. Just make sure you own a generator

We just had a high-efficiency gas furnace installed last fall. Bills are way down over previous years. The old furnace was 27 yrs. old and although still in fairly good shape, well past its prime.

Go gas. Electricity bills will kill ya'.

I would go with gas. Then put in a diesel backup generator for the house. No more power outages or loss of heat. If you are going to get more involved than that, start reading Mother Earth News.

I do own a diesel backup generator, for the 20 acres I owned.
