You just completely missed the point.Originally posted by baddogAs stated above, the intellect here scares me sometimes.
Do not, I repeat, do not do the crime if you can not handle the consequences. Fucking kids these days raised with no sense of responsibility.
If you want to be a gangster, be advised, if you get caught you will be penalized.
If the state of New York changed the law and started executing people for jaywalking, would that be just merely because people knew the law?
When racial segregation was still the law, was it okay to uphold it?
What about apartheid, was it okay to lock up Nelson Mandela because he broke an unjust law?
Laws can be unjust. Whether they are unjust or not has nothing to do with whether people know them or not./(bb|[^b]{2})/Comment

You were the one that made the "don't treat people like children" comment. Not me.Originally posted by punkworldSo you're saying things should be either black or white, but never anything in between? Because, presumably, gray is a really evil colour that will rape your granny and eat your pets?
I don't need the 'state' to do any of the aforementioned things for me...
That would be treating me like a child.Last edited by broke; 12-03-2005, 02:16 PM.Comment

What did Mandela do in the face of unjust laws? Break them? Ignore them? Run drugs?Last edited by broke; 12-03-2005, 02:17 PM.Comment

It's obviously not meant to teach him a lesson, it's meant to teach other people who are thinking about doing what he did, as is any type of capital punishment.Comment

However, I repeat, what is you problem with gray? Why should a government that has a certain number of social institutions completely eradicate all freedoms within society?
That's like saying that someone who is an asshole every once in a while has a moral obligation to become Hitler./(bb|[^b]{2})/Comment

When you get off the fucking plane, they make it really fucking clear to you their laws about drugs, there is no doubt left in your mind what will happen if you get caught.Originally posted by punkworldYou just completely missed the point.

As a self-proclaimed libertarian, don't you see gray as the precursor to the next step? I'm sorry but their is no gray when it comes to being a citizen rather than a subject.Originally posted by punkworldHowever, I repeat, what is you problem with gray? Sorry it offends you that I respect the laws of sovereign nations when I travel, regardless of whether or not I agree with those laws.Comment

He actually did break laws, and admitted to a campaign of sabotage against the state. But that's beside the point.Originally posted by brokeOdd you missed the point...

The point is that laws can be unjust, since laws are supposed to reflect morality, but morality is not derived from laws. If unjust laws are executed, they lead to unjust actions. The fact that these laws are laws is not a valid legitimation for them and their execution./(bb|[^b]{2})/Comment

And that makes you a really big fucking idiot if you go through with it.Originally posted by aicoWhen you get off the fucking plane, they make it really fucking clear to you their laws about drugs, there is no doubt left in your mind what will happen if you get caught.
It does not make the execution just, however. Executing someone for their stupidity, after all, isn't just./(bb|[^b]{2})/Comment

Actually, there is a gray. While Robert Nozick's self-ownership argument indeed presents a strong case for redistributive taxes amounting to a form of slavery, the "payment for extended services" argument combined with an individual's right to leave a country provides room for a gray area of a kind which still respects an individual's autonomy.Originally posted by brokeAs a self-proclaimed libertarian, don't you see gray as the precursor to the next step? However, that's probably getting too technical for this thread. A simpler point is that a relatively small amount of restrictions on liberty is better than a larger amount, much in the same way that getting punched in the face is better than getting shot through the head.
Respecting a country's laws if you travel is something completely different from never criticizing them though. If I go to China, you won't see me yelling out that the country should be made democratic. That would be pretty dumb. However, that does not mean that their laws are unjust, or that it is bad to argue that point./(bb|[^b]{2})/Comment

When i lived in saudi arabia... i went to a beheading. EVery friday in the city square the main square is known as chop chop square. The place is like a soccer game, whole families go to watch, and jeer. Every week some poor SOB is blindfolded, walked out of a van, made to kneel, the excutioner digs in to the trunk of his car, pulls out a sword, washes the blade, then pokes the guy in the back so he arches back, and then swings,
yes.. this happens every friday so there is i guess an endless of drug dealers, and their mules,
Btw.. good movie is the "falling of grace" its a story of a young girl who gets a job as a drug mule.Comment

Maybe for the thread, but it's an interesting conversation that I wouldn't mind having in the future.
Why do you think your "western" sense of morality and value of human life should be imposed on others?Comment

I'll definitely go into it more deeply sometime in the future. It's actually something I'm doing a lot of research on at the moment, and I'm always looking for new points of view and new arguments on the matter.Originally posted by brokeMaybe for the thread, but it's an interesting conversation that I wouldn't mind having in the future.

I actually don't consider my sense of morality to be a strictly western one. While it indeed originates in the west, it is based on rational reasoning rather than purely cultural intuitions. Once again, this is too technical a subject to go into in detail, but my view is based on the (neo-)Kantian idea of human beings being "ends in themselves" and deriving (equal) moral value from that./(bb|[^b]{2})/Comment

broke,
have heard of the golden rule?

its the one that says that the one with most of the gold makes rules.
that's why he thinks his "western" sense of morality and value of human life should be imposed on others.

punkworld is clearly showing off great wisdom and understanding of the principles of society.
Ok, so everybody here is aware of the long term effects of alcohol. So one that provides it is making money off people slowly killing themselves.
Same train of thought; everybody knows Mcdonald's food is harmful to you, we dont know precisely to what extent, but one thing's for sure, it affects your body in a negative way. But McDonald's pays their taxes, and the current laws dont make it illegal, so they are a positive asset to society?
Do I even have to explain in what way this principle also applies to the tobacco industry? Not to mention, the very-industry we work in, porn?
How about automobiles that are able to exceed the speed-limit? Why aren't cars locked at 100km/hr ?
The ONLY difference here, is the examples listed above are not currently outlawed. Because some bureaucrat writes down bullshit on his TP while taking a dump doesn't make it universal, you fuckin' twats.
Anyways, not that I'm hoping to change your perspectives on anything, as your inside-the-box minds are as tight as the Virgin Mary's very asshole.

You seem to have alot of respect on this board. I hope your not judging me becuase of an altercation with your crony.
Could this be the reason for your attitude against me?

You know, its cool if you wanna disagree with me, everyones entitled to their own opionon, but dont let this be about something else.
Cmon dude, were reasonable people and do alot of shows, and have to see you there. Dont burn bridges with us, becuase of someone else's stupidity.
Chances are, if your in Vegas, we will probably see you at the circle bar. If I see you, drinks are on me, and maybe you can actually give me a chance to introduce myself.
Im not gonna disagree that its a highly effective way to erradicate crime. haha! Becuase, it sure as fucked works for me.
I just think its fucked up the guy had to die fo it.
One of these days, we are gonna see some of our porn buddies, strung up and executed in some third world country for something fucked up. Quite possibly, somone many of us know and care about.Comment

Throughout history, people have found varoius ways of getting "high".Originally posted by chodadogYou don't think a heroin dealer has effectively killed people?
People kill themselves huffing paint.
A certain percentage of human beings will always develop personalities easily succeptable to drug abuse.
How much money you got, is usually the factor on what type of lethal drug it is, that you kill yourself with.Comment
