There are country variances which could have been the outcome -
In Nigera someone would have stolen the crashed computer within 10 seconds and rebuilt it - with no evidence left.
In the US the guy would be slammed to the dirt, cuffed and thrown in a jail cell, - followed by a brief court appearance, be remanded for 7 days for a psychiatric report then fined $1000. He would then sue Microsoft for mental stress.
In Somalia crowds would gather and look amazed - "Ah.. that's what a computer looks like and is used for?"
