          #1. Branding is huge.
          Learn to scale up, but knowing what's scalable is also important.
          Keep things positive always.
          Make the stories consistent in the writing style so that readers will recognize that it's you and leave them wanting more.
          When you're writing stories, everything should stay present tense. The story is happening as you're reading, not in the past.

          If you're making money on story sales, do the math and find out how many you need to sell to break even, then how much you need to pay yourself enough to live. Add like 25% to those numbers.
          If you're making money on ads, find good ad networks and do the math to find out how many uniques/page views you need to break even, then etc above.

          Just some random things, but there's a lot more to it, too. Main rule after branding, though, is to never quit.
