i've never known someone with multiple personalities PERSONALLY, but here are a few experiences i've had/heard of:
one day when i was working at the pharmacy, i was trying to fill someone's prescription and i was having trouble getting their insurance to pay for it. i asked them if they'd mind waiting so that i could get it straightened out for them and so that they wouldn't have to pay for it 100% out of pocket. they said they would, and they stood there at the counter (so they could hear everything that i said). i called their insurance company and explained that i was having trouble getting the claim approved and asked them to look into it. the representative explained to me that there are notes in this guy's file that he has multiple personalities, and INSISTS that they all be listed as seperate people in his insurance records and on his insurance card (here, i had thought that all of the other names listed were children). he said that we had to use different numbers for different personalities/names, and that i was using an incorrect number. he told me what to use and it went through. i couldn't ask much further into anything since he was standing right there, but the representative insinuated that it was a real challenge to deal with this guy and that he was quite used to having to handle things like this.
my sister's boyfriend is a lawyer. he once represented a man who had multiple personalities. one of these personalities was a female, and THAT personality, happened to be the one that was on trial. he said he had a hell of a time trying to figure out what would be the best way to phrase things, and if he should refer to his client as "he," or "she," when having to state such.
