Two cords of oak, eucalyptus, walnut, pine, etc makes for a nice windbreak also.

Absolutely, Duraflames are just so darn convenient and they burn hella longer than the real stuff...

I grew up in east texas which is all pine forest, but nobody there burns it in the fireplace because its dangerous.

Don't see why it can't now. If there is no rear clean out, it might be a PITA, but it is still doable (I would think).

Creosote?

Depending on how many fires and how big they are and the kind of chimney I guess.

I have burned a ton (literally) of pine at my prior home, and I have been burning wood mixes including pine here since 1985. Never had it swept or had any chimney fires.

haha - he'd probably frown upon my habit of cutting up xmas trees and burning them in my fireplace.
