Question about shaving.

Just for fun, lets say you KNEW for a fact that a certain company was shaving and could PROVE it; would you out them on the boards or just help file a class action suit on behalf of the affiliates getting ganked?

im working on one sponsor ... i will have info in next days ... i have my site before his original in the first place in all search engines, i made few sales after few hours i got the actual possition, then someone checked my url through whois and from then no sale in two weeks ... search engine traffic as hell, but no sale ... 100s people are comming to the site through me ... umm interesting, stay tuned i will keep you informed and maybe one sponsor to fall ... but those are only my actual best wishes with your sites, less thiefs and enjoy my engrish everyone!

When you refer to shaving in this instance, or in general, does it only involve misreporting raw hits/unique hits/join hits/etc., or not counting actual sales?

As for your question, I think the answer would depend on the intent: do you want to vilify and punish the company, or help affiliates gain proper compensation? For the former, outting them on the boards would be the ideal solution since it would hurt their rep, steer curious/future affiliates away, and probably cause existing affiliates to stop promoting them. If it's for the latter, then the class action lawsuit would be ideal because it would allow the cheated affiliates to receive all due revenue.

It may not be as clear cut as above, and one outcome may lead to the other while achieving both aims. If I were an affiliate of that program I'd certainly want to know about their illicit activities one way or the other.

Usually I make test signups using family members credit cards... and yes, I always let the sponsor know after, so they can delete the sales

We've tested more or less all the big programs out there and the reason why we do it is that we see some insane sales patterns from time to time which I simply refuses to believe

We've seen spots on big TGPs pay of maybe 25 sales in average 10 spots in a row and BOOM every single spot all of a sudden only pays off 4-5 sales.. out of no where

But.. I don't think can be blamed on shaving, I think it's the paysites which gets added to the trojan guys database..

No... would not say immediately. It's called letting out the rope. This did happen and for a fair lump of money (six figures) and was in the process of fraud issues. But.. these were complicated and delayed by multi-jurisdictional problems and in that time the company liquidated. It was a waste of time and throwing good money after bad to continue chasing the individuals involved. Tho... don't doubt there were more webmasters conned at that time.
