Her friends will know if the ring will fit, if she will like it, and how she wants to be proposed to. seriously, I have a small file on all my best girlfriends.

When I was 18-19 I thought I was the king shit. Smart, hard working, going places, etc. Then I turned 20. Started looking back at what I did and thought when I was 18-19 and realized how stupid I was. Knowing this, I once again thought I was the king shit, at 20. Then I turned 21. The cycle repeated. I'm 22 now, when I was 20 I was a complete twat. In a year from now I'll say the same thing about my current age. Its amazing how much someone can and will change. I figure by the time I'm 25 or so my blinders will be off.

Dude...you're TOO young!!! I married my high-school sweetheart right out of high school, we had a kid then got divorced. We grew in totally opposite directions as we matured (well...I matured -- she stayed about the same and it drove me nutty).

Here is what I did.
I took her out to a nice place for dinner on the water here in San Diego. I had three pieces of paper with three dates on it and waded all three up.
When the waiter came by to get our order, I put three waded pieces of paper out on the table and asked him to pick one and open it up and tell me the date on it.
When he read the date on the paper, he then asked what is with the date. I responded with that is the date we are going to get married on. That date was 10/04/03.

I think thats a little different. You're older, have lived SOME of your craziness (haha) and really aren't going to change much more. My dad is 43 and just got married last year, within 8 months of proposing and he proposed within 2 months of dating. Well shit. I guess I'll bust out my Rico Suave' way of how I did it. Simple, but effective.
I went to the Florist and bought 3 dozen roses. Then I took them over to the place where we were going to go out for dinner that night, obviously while she wasn't around. I sat down with the owner/manager and said, "alright I want to make this special, so here's my plan. After we have had dinner, I would like you to start going around to each of the women in the resturant and give them these roses. I will excuse myself to use the restroom. At that time I'll go into the kitchen and get the last rose and tie the ring on to it. After all 35 roses are gone, I will take the last rose to her and give it to her and have her stand up and propose."
He agreed and the night went off without a hitch.
