I think that the problem is that the bible its a BIG metaphor and people don't understand that, people always seek for something paranormal, some kind of salvation for a empty life.
It all begins when we question, "what is life ?" "What a hell are we doing here ?", "what porpouse of our life ?", and then because there is no defined answer people tend to explain all that stuff with religion.
Some centuries ago Christians killed people in the name of Christ, today we see Muslins killing in the name of Allah, both religions became distorted because a couple of smartass guys cheated the dumb believers, in the end it's all about power !
