    Newbie SEO questions

    For example

    i have the domain www.postwrap.com

    now i look in overture and see its searched 104 times.. nothing crazy.

    now does the fact that i own the domain postwrap.com mean i have a slightly higher chance of being listed higher when someone searches for post wrap? or does it solely depend on the contents of the page, and the relevant inbound links? because i highly doubt i can hit up other post wrap links and ask for a link trade.. i know its not even worth it for this key word, but i am just trying to get a picture in my head..

    advertisers are paying 0.11 cents per click for this keyword, so not really even worth it...

    but i also own smilax.net

    and that pays 0.25 cents/click and is searched 500 times/month

    does the domain name play any part in this, is what i'm asking, or what?

    excuse my newbness, i've never really been good at SEO type stuff.

      On MSN, yes, maybe a little on Yahoo too. On Google there are a lot of other factors that will be a much bigger deal.

          or for example i also have CreditDebt.us and the term credit debt is searched 27,000 monthly...

          and keywords for that pay up to 7.00 per click

              does the extention come into play as well??

              sorry i'm completely new to this shit

              but how exactly do you get pages in mainstream ranked higher? isn't it hard to find relevant sites to do link trades with?

                  Yes the domain play a big part now, if you have the keyword in the domain, it rocks.

                  .com are believed to rank better

                                  in YAHOO the domain helps a lot. as far as other than .com, the traffic is less type in wise. but the SE's will index them the same

                                      1- Your domain helps, but only to a certain extent.
                                      2- The .com usually gets better placement off the back vs other extensions.
                                      3- Your page content / inbound links / inbound decriptions and internal linkage will all help

                                              Another stupid newb too. If you own the domain sign up with google and make a few html pages with lots of keywords. You won't make a million dollars without effort but the domain will pay for itself plus pay for minor bills.
