I know lots of gay peoples that live in Dallas, and say it's actually pretty progressive there. The thing I keep hearing, is that Dallas doesn't belong in Texas, haha.

In a way I agree with that statement. I heard once that Dallas is more liberal than Austin, which sort of surprised me at the time, but over the years I have found DFW to be a very liberal place. There's a large and very open gay population and "gay town" and a lot of art and culture. There are better places to live for sure, but there are much, much worse too.
