actually it is a very good cross section of life in toronto that is unlike most areas worldwide. we are made to accept other cultures and that is fine. but when in schools youth are harassed and problems are created we are careful not to point fingers at any group for fear of being called a racist.
I live in a largely populated muslim and black building, and get along great with everyone, but schools such as this where you mix in the element of youth and foreign concepts of how women are inappropriately treated (much less life itself) and you open a can of worms that no one wants to talk about.
They could easily have been white guys - but what i am hearing from some of the students there is not how shitty this situation is for the girl or guys, but its become racial and mostly.. how much its going to affect the basketball team (which most of these guys were on).
Its difficult for us to understand the mentality of someone who only cares for themself or their own kind when we make every attempt to be open... and to make this a racial issue more than a male vs. female harassment case would be better, but what is at stake here is the mentality of students today who refuse to see it as an argument between sexes.. they take it to racial, political/legal on how the cops were wrong, to inappropriate perspective where the girl is to blame (and white folks) because now basketball is ruined.Comment

as I said, I talked to some students directly from that school and this is how they are presenting it. What is happening is that it is turning into a racial issue and is ruining lives of everyone involved. The girl claims that she has been harassed, threatened and sexual assaulted several times and has listed teens, just so happens that all of them are black (the one white one was released as not part of the group accused).
So is this because you dont like that it was a group of men who were black? or that you werent aware at the time that they were?
Does this happen with white guys forming gangs and raping young girls? of course.
why this is important is that in toronto and specifically in that school this has become an issue of race more than bullying and has grown to the point where the black students are now being hostile towards the white students. So would say that it is an issue of black vs. white here, it has become so not because of me but instead the students and parents have made it one. I am only forwarding what is being said to me and raising my concerns here.Comment

Crime is NOT the result of, or cause by, race but by a person's situation in life. So instead of saying a disproportionate number of blacks commit crimes, they party line should be "poor people from poor neighbourhoods are more likely to commit crimes"

I think this has less to do with race than with the aggressiveness of high school guys these days. The fact that they were able to assault a girl inside the school should say something.
15 year old girls are very naive and easily intimidated. I have no doubt in my mind that she was intimidated into any sexual activity regardless of her consent. I doubt she went to school that day and decided to fuck some guy in the bathroom of the school in front of a bunch of guys.
But my opinion probably isn't too popular. I know the cool thing is to call every rape victim a whore who was asking for it. You can tell those who don't have daughters.Comment
