    the "link:www.domain.com" in google...

    if i put:
    link:www.domain.com
for some of my domains, it has to show the sites that link to me... but it doesnt, ive got quite some sites linked to one site of mine and they aint in the list... only one site is in the list for a site of mine and thats a subpage of one of my own sites.
Or does it take alot of time before google updates it? Because MSN and Yahoo do show the sites linking to me.

Yeah annoying, it's most likely because the sites linking aren't indexed yet in google. Google doesn't know they are linked yet.

    I seo'd my hair yesterday and today it's pr7!

small points, but try using the domain alone (e.g. domain.com) and be sure to have a space between "link:" and "domain.com":

            link: domain.com

For the site: command, no space:

            site:domain.com

I don't know why Google expects a space for "link: " and not for "site:", but it's the proper syntax. As well, for both commands keep in mind:

                  - As Chio mentioned, only indexed pages will show up as linking to you
                  - Google does not show *every* link it finds, only a "representative sample". So if it shows 40 pages linking to your domain, there are likely a lot more.
                  - Try the site: command on Yahoo for a comparison, you can get a better sample of sites linking to you using both SEs
                  - The site: function will include the TLD andr sub-domains (eg. sub1.domain.com, www.domain.com, www2.domain.com)
                  - I don't believe the link: function is as reliable for sub-domains, it's best to use the sub in the command (e.g. "link: sub1.domain.com")

I recently got turned down on a sale of one of my domains cause of no linkbacks, but if there are no linkbacks then where does the traffic come from? Definately not google.

as I know site: and link: function are two different functions at all. site: shows only pages which links to requested domain from that domain, not inbound links at all...and link: shows all inbound links (google indexed sites) to requested domain.

I just don't understand what's the main difference between the space thing and going w/o it...

Most people are missing a major point - Google has been selective in the links it shows for a LONG while now. It has nothing to do with caching or even PR of the links to you any more. In one of its many misguided attempts to make life difficult for 'spammers' and SEO (and IMHO fuck up its own results on the way) it no longer shows all the sites linking to you.

It's just the syntax Google uses. If you want the correct results, use "link: domain.com" (with space) and "site:domain.com" (no space)

I honestly don't know, but I don't think they have that feature. You can use "domain.com" (with quotes) to get some results but that's not nearly ideal as it acts as a text match and doesn't look at HREF tags.

Very true, google is the one search engine that does not offer this information out to people. I thought there was a thread on this a few weeks ago.

As far as the difference between -link: domain.com- and -link:domain.com- it is obvious! just search out one of your lesser known domains to find the results. the space creats a search on the two words and not a direct hard link. however, just because your site is listed as a domain (domain.com) it does not mean you actually have a link to your site. it's a messed up world that we live in.
