You can't beat original, well written blog posts over the long run.
Splogs (especially ass-wipe scrapers) run the risk of getting their domains shit listed once they are reported and/or their content is flagged as stuffed keywords (or previously published/scraped content).
SEs can see through scraped content (dup).
As for "registrar/registrant spoofing" (ie. pretending to have unrelated sites cross-linking between covertly owned multiple Class Cs to manipulate SE ranking), what happened to link farms should serve as a warning to those investing this form of SE rank manpulation.
