They were originally so that people could tell whose phone was ringing. Mine has an actual ring and it stands out now because it isn't something strange.

I don't 'like' it...its not a priority...its just an option, and I chose to use it...

Actually I do not get annoyed easily. Just for some reason they get under my skin. I think it may be due to I only hear them when I go out and then I hear many at one time.
