It's quite possible. This is the type of voting that permeates the U.S. electoral system. They did a study in the 90's about people voting "the party line." Basically, they did exit polls on the party they voted for, then asked them to name the candidate. The results illustrated that many people were voting by party, not by candidate.
To quote your statement: "Learn about your government." Perhaps YOU should learn about the U.S. (not "my") government.
