                I'm addressing the insurance issue so that hopefully OTHERS can learn from this. The old "It could never happen to me, I'm young and healthy" argument has been posted here many times as to why people don't pay the $100 or so a month for a basic policy. I hope no one thinks I'm attacking Nikki in any way, shape or form and even though I don't know her, my prayers and good thoughts are being sent to her, her family and friends.

                                        so true. I know when I couldn't afford insurance my parents picked up major medical for me. As soon as I was making money, having my own medical/dental insurance was more important than a new whatever. The insurance I have now is better since I am covered under hubbies plan.

                                        I pay car insurance, home owners insurance and business insurance, and medical co-pays. Hell, I guess I should be asking for help on the boards rather adjusting our lifestyle and dipping into our savings.

                                        I feel for Nikki and hope the best for her.

I have voluntered to find and rescue desert turtles. I am what they might call a "tree hugger". I am a good hearted person and I believe in a saying "Do Unto Others as You'd Have Them Do Unto You". I'm sorry you don't seem to feel the same as me.

                                            I don't need to know someone to feel the need to do something good for them. I believe we are all human and if everyone just treated each other with love and respect and dropped the sarcasm, lies and negative attitudes our world would heal much faster and become that much of a better place to live.

                                            I hope you never have to go through anything like this. I woudn't wish this upon anyone.

                                                                                Over 2 years ago, this board was not that full of mean people. I have just seen it fall to a level I don't care for. If for some reason, down the road, I come through GFY and see a help thread and read it, I will do my part. I am only here to post updates on her health now and to answer questions. Trust me, you will not see me here starting threads and attempting to do business. I came here because this is a huge board that a lot of people in our business come to. It is one of the best ways to get news out to the community. Like I said, I posted on many boards. I didn't select GFY as the only board to post on.

There is unfortunetly no way to know how much everything is going to cost. She's not even out of ICU yet.

I wish my mom was so active being in ICU a few years ago, and I wish that my husband was too after his surgery (a few weeks ago). My husband could care less about making phone calls or receiving them a couple of days after, he was more concern about the pain he was in and if he could walk.

                                                                                                                                                                                Being an avid horse rider years ago, I believe the story of how she got hurt has some flaws. There is no way a horse gets spooked to falls backward unless they can go foward. Horses run when in fear; their brain is a size of a chicken.

                                                                                                                                                                                                I met Nikki years ago here in Florida and she seemed like a nice girl. I hope she recovers quickly. I haven't read the whole thread from beginning to end but I have to agree with the people that asked why she didn't have health insurance when she has been making a good living for many years now. It's just reckless and irresponsible. It seems like people are constantly appealing to the forum for donations for individuals that never planned ahead. My own coverage costs just $148/month for basic coverage with a popular HMO for a thirty-eight year old single male non-smoker in Florida. Anyway, I hope other self empoyed people learn a lesson here so they don't' go bankrupt from an unexpected injury or accident.
