IN EVERY state in the US, A police officer is authorized to use deadly force to protect himself. the instant that the man pick up a firearm, and the officer knew, ( Which he did, by yelling multiple time to put the gun down, ) He should have fired on the the subject.

From the looks of the are around the cars the back up was most likey 20 min + away. Even at 100 mph. Troopers in most states face that.
When the guy started for the truck, he should have reholstered, and grabbed the guy. A fight without a firearm would have been the best. Why didn't the cop annihilate that guy as soon as he came out of the truck? I would have pummeled that guy with 6 rounds as soon as i saw him reaching for his gun in the truck. Sad, the guy was young and he obviously was nervous about firing at him early, and when he did start shooting even though he hit him once he seemed to miss alot of times. But I can agree with everyone here and say that I think he should of shot the guy in the back as he was reaching for his gun.
