I would enjoy his "magic" if he was ANYONE else... unfortunately he appears to be some sort of deformed Goth twink and I can not even stand looking at him for 10 seconds... so I switch it over to Discovery Channel and watch the mating habits of the African Tree Frog instead

I watched some of the Halloween special - it was freaky when he turned ashes from a card into a 'stain' on the tabletop - and 'reading peoples minds' trippy stuff - good magicians are hard to find nowadays cos so many people know the 'tricks of the trade'

i saw about the first 5-6 episodes then stopped watching, i just cannot stand his act,

anyone who tries to act all "mythical" i personally find annoying, dont stand there for 4 min and pretend like you have some kind of "magical force", do the f'in trick already.

i cannot stand him, i actually left one of my buddies house recently because they had "MIND FREAK" on, he imo is seriously that bad, i would rather watch Home & Garden television.

not to sure, magic is a show yes, and when i dont enjoy the show i dont enjoy the magic.

just like if there is a crappy movie with a good actor in it, the movie is still crappy.

i saw copperfield at MGM this year and fully enjoyed his show, he is comical and well timed,

i find CHRIS ANGEL to be slow and boring.

I don't even get his "magic". Most of his stunts take about 10 minutes to figure out and most of the audience ( on the street ) is hired actors. You simply can't do magic on t.v. and be believable. If you look like that guy nobody is ever going to believe you.

david blaine is the only good t.v. magician , and its not even his magic that makes him good , ( because most of his follows the same logic i.e. camera angles , paid actors ). its his persona, the guy just acts creepy , it freaks you out.

I actually just got done watching the Halloween special about an hour ago (I had it recorded). It is pretty amazing how he does what he does. The tree shredder was amaing. You see his hands go inside a second before it enters the shredder, then he pops out inside the back of the truck. It seems impossible.

I went to a private party on saturday for the drummer of AC/DC at the magic castle. 2 blocks from my house, its this huge castle-like place with restaurant and tons of rooms for magic shows. Wild. I'd never been there but had only driven by it many times. So I put on my vampire costume complete with fangs and black 17th century jimi hendrix/Napoleon Boneapart coat and walked over.. got my free admission and 2 free drink tix..said OPEN SESAME to the bookcase, and after it slid open, I walked in. TONS OF FUCKIN HOT CHICKS... man I couldn't stop hittin on girls after the champagne... so after the surprise for Chris from AC/DC, in walks Criss Angel and begins to meet people at the party.. he was cool, I introduced myself, Adam Black, pleasure to meet you.. good for you on your recent contract..
guess what? did you know this guy was just give a $100 million dollar contract to perform at the Magic Theater the Wynn casino in vegas is building him???

First Criss Angel stunt I saw was his street levitation. I immediately saw the 2 wires, which indicates a crane above.. totally TV magic. The stunned onlookers = actors. Still, this is a tv show and the illusion is for the viewers. He's a decent, but very cheezy actor.

Ok, there have been a bunch of threads about Criss Angel and I have decided to finally post my opinion.

I cannot believe the amount of haters, if you do not know anything about magic or are not interested in magic why post BS trashing someone??

I have studied magic for many many years, Books, Videos, live shows, I have meet and talked with a few big magicians, everything short of performing shows myself Criss Angel is one of the best if not the best I have ever seen! The difference with him is he takes alot of older tricks and redefines them and takes them a step beyond anything anyone has ever tried! He is truly amazing!

Here are some tips for the haters and for people interested in magic and Criss Angel:

1. Stop posting things like, "it is a trick he is not real". Magic is ILLUSION, of course there are tricks to it!! He is not a fucking alien!!

2. All his tricks are performed in front of live people, some of the tricks are edited down to fit in the time slot of the show, that does NOT mean he uses camera tricks. (If you have ever seen someone perform a live show, you would know that some tricks have a lot of "Stories" to them to drag them out longer and give the tricks a better effect)

3. He DOES NOT use special cameras or camera tricks to fool TV. yes there are ticks involved, its magic tricks, NOT camera tricks.

4. For all the people who say his tricks are so easy I can figure them out, believe me I am sure you are wrong in what you are thinking. I know alot about magic, which actually ruins it for me sometimes when I am watching because I know alot of what they are doing, but his tricks are executed with such perfection, 90% are almost impossible to figure out. It is not always what you think!!

5. His "Gothic look" and Strange show intros need to be overlooked, who cares what he looks like, it is all stage presence, do you think Ozzy goes around biting heads off of bats?? No it is for shock value and stage performance.

6. All his talk about mind over body, superhuman strength, reading minds, etc.. is because he is trying to bring out a new type of magic, he is not only showing his ability as an Illusionist, but he is also trying to show the world that the mind and body can be used in a way that most people do not understand. the stunts he does like getting electrocuted, hanging from hooks in his back, etc.. those are not tricks. I know alot about magic, which actually ruins it for me sometimes when I am watching because I know alot of what they are doing, but his tricks are executed with such perfection, 90% are almost impossible to figure out. It is not always what you think!!

That would be assuming your smarter than the person your making assumptions about prob not the smartest way to start

Houdini did not do illusions. He was an escape artist. HUGE difference.

He was both.

Read Houdini's bio - "The Man Who Walked Through Walls" by (1959)William Lindsay Gresham. A large part of his act was illusions.

Many of the tricks Mindfreak does are straight outta that book. The stunt where he swallows the pins and thread and pulls them out all threaded is Houdini's. The woodchipper/coffin was a variation of Houdinis. The helicopter stunt was a spin on Houdini's inverted suspension straitjacket stunts he performed from office towers.

The book describes in minute detail how the coffin stunt is done. Its a forehead slapper once ya' read it.
