decriminalize but don't make it legal. sounds good to me ill take that anyday. im tired of hearing about people in the midwest and central states being put in prison for a couple plants. im not talking about fucking guerilla growers with ak47's in national parks. im talking about family men and women with children. houses taken families destroyed over 4-5 plants. its a problem and it needs to be taken care of.

decriminalizing is just another step towards where we need to go. now ill be the first to admit i wouldn't want it legalized for a number of reasons. mostly because i don't think young teenagers should use this drug as they seem to abuse it the most. because they think its cool and it doesn't affect them like other drugs. when in reality it does. too many misconceptions out there about weed. it can be abused just like any other drug but if used in moderation there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

just my thoughts on the subject.. carrying an ounce or two should not get you a felony, period.

Who cares. The local cops aren't going to bust you, and that's all that matters.

While Denver did legalize it up to one ounce, there are still ramifications. One, it's only in the city, second if the cop is feeling like an asshole you can still get busted and deal with state or federal authorities. This was more to clean up the area of bullshit and deal with real crimes.

I can't remember the number exactly, but the percentage of women in AZ prisons is crazy just for having weed. The number was incredible and I was watching a special on it. It was just nuts.

Then you would know about underground markets (the Black Economy) and how much of that isn't recorded in the GDP. Once it gets fully legalized then that underground market would not be underground and taxes would be assessed. That would account for the influx of money.

You honestly don't think the Government would legalize it without taxing it, do you? Cigs and Alcohol are two of the most highest taxed items...pot would probably be higher. Philip Morris would have pot fields all over and would sell a pack of joints for $10, and that's high quality weed. Name one person that could grow a high enough yield of quality buds and still sell it that cheap.

What you're talking about isn't an influx of income though, it's a shift in income within the same country.

Massive crops of marijuana are already produced, distributed, and consumed in America today. It's not like there's no weed in America now, and then if it were legalized there would suddenly be weed where there was none before creating this huge windfall of an industry that never existed before.

Instead of an influx of income to the country, it would be more like a shift of that income within the country. Income would shift from the currently illegal growers and dealers to the corporate producers, distributors, and retailers.

Very valid point, Brisk. The pot that is being sold now is all being done through the black market therefore not taxed or accounted for in the GDP. The influx I was referring was the taxation of it (which it is not taxed now). As soon as the law is passed to legalize it tons of huge companies would distribute it and in the process cut out the A) Imports of marijuana and B) the local cultivators which cannot compete. Those industries will then be taxed and that will account for the massive influx.

I could be wrong, like I said, you have a very valid point and God knows that I'm not an Economist. Hell, I barely got a C in MacroEconomics.

I doubt that imports would be cut out. If America legalized weed, I'm sure Canada and Mexico would too. Canada is already further along the legalization process anyway, plus it also has a free trade agreement with America.
