A 6 figure bid just came in on a domain I've been watching for awhile:

LUST.com

Is it worth it? just curious what you GFYers think. It's not my domain, but check out the 6 figure bid that just came in for LUST.com Only 6 days left till closing. extremely nice brandable dating/adult domain name. Do you all think it's worth it? anyone here going to buy it? the bid jumped so high, so quickly too... How high do you think it's going to go? maybe one of the GFY Dating Heavyweights like DatingGold, FriendFinder, IWantU, or another big program will buy it. Do you think Lensman, Lars, WF or Playboy will scoop it up? I think it's an amazing domain name. I remember what he paid for it too.

yeah, I don't see that getting $100K+ worth of type ins and any decent domain can be branded - I mean adultfriendfinder.com isn't the shortest domain but I think it's working out OK for that site

I have a one word mainstream dating domain I bought a few years ago for mid 5 figures. I think the value has risen looking at this name and current bid.

Think is was at Network Solutions and parked at Afternic..
Some Domain Trader will nail it and sell it for 2 times that much next year..

Ya know sometimes they use a phoney name and buy the domain from themselves at a high price just to make it worth more for resale......

I sold a 5-character domain (MELON.com) for 6-figures (could have held out for more), and I've also sold a 12+character domain (two words) for mid 7-figures... both names had zero-to-meaningless type in value... pure brandability. MELON.com launched 2days after I sold it (to a damn BILLION/TRILLION dollar Korean telecom who launched it's own itunes/ mobile/web "entertainment on demand" company.) the other domain (12+chars) never even launched... they bought it to take it off the market. I got lots of stock for that deal... but I was smart enough to get a cash buyback guarantee!

though I should have bought me.com for under 500K last year... amazing 2char domain... simply FUCKING amazing. when I contacted former owners they wanted 7fig and then they caved last year cause they thought market was gone/dead... damn. and then Local.com sold for $700K last year as well... what a steal. damn. way underpriced.

btw, me.com is a nice site now... http://me.com (myspace competitor, major contender, already funded too.)

I know the curent crop of domainers only factor in type-ins when buying domains, but some of you have completely forgotten that every day, a new crop of "startups, products, businesses, etc" launch and those companies will pay for brand-ability. I know, I know, type-ins are a MAJOR concern, but there's much more money out there in the aftermarket for brandability... it is a more treacherous path to take, very dangerous dealing with big companies that will try to find ways to "own" the domain without paying you for it, but when you find a way to tap into this space, it can be amazing.

I just sold a domain I bought for $15 (total) and got a 100,000% markup. not too shabby, but it has ZERO type-ins, not a single one, and to be honest I almost let it expire this summer.. but I said.. what the hell, why not?

As far as lust goes, it's a 6 figure domain probably. I would be more inclined to buy it if it was more applicable to a specific niche but what do I know?
