While American Idol does seem to cause a lot of problems in western civilization they are a show based on 'talent'.

AI is not all bad. Think about it, how many songs have come out in the past 10 years sung by people who can't sing for shit?
Well, you aren't going to be in the top 3 of AI if that's you.
Daughtry, no matter what you think of him, has a great voice. So does Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Kathrine McPhee (who I met last weekend, she's hot as hell). They can sing well in any genre you choose. A rock guy good enough to sing a Motown song and a Metallica number? That rarely happens.
Compare them to your average rock or pop singers.
