Is it right to hand out candy to kids on halloween if you don't have kids?

Went to buy a shitload of candies for the kids, and a 6 foot inflatable ghost. Hope there's a lot of kids this year ;-)Comment

The wife and I didn't think twice about it before we had kids. It's Halloween, so you pass out candy if you plan to be home.
A good way, that I've admittedly only seen and never done, to gain trust in your neighborhood or community is to prepack bags of candy and put your address on them.
Noone's gonna question anything if you're willing to do that.
Of course, if the kids are old enough to realize where they got the candy, you better stuff it full of good stuff.Comment

I'm not belittling your point, because I used to have the exact same reservations, until someone said this to me...Originally posted by BVI'd be more concerned if it's fair for the county to charge homeowners with no kids a school tax. Seems sort of fucked up to me.
There are two direct ways in which people without kids benefit from the public school system and why they should pay.
1-They attended the public school system. Sure your parents paid the tax at the time but your education, or lack thereof (not directed at you) are a direct influence on both you and public system-via taxes, welfare, unemployment insurance etc.
2-The children that are going through the education system today are the ones that will have a direct influence on many things that will affect you in the future...ie-political, retirement funds, employment in your area (hence crime).
So, while YOU may not have children, is it not in your best interest to make sure the children of today have the best opportunities laid out before them so they aren't a drag on the system? If you don't believe that, then remember that other adults without children paid for your education...assuming of course that you went to public school.
P.S. Hopefully that came across as it should have. It's drinking night with the boys, so I may have to revisit to clarify in the AM.Comment

hahaha they should've knocked on the door of daily planet...Originally posted by richard123I just had 5 (yes FIVE) 13-14 year old girls in mini skirts (I thought they must have been dressed up to look like sluts) knock on my door and go "Trick or treat". I was pretty surprised. I thought it was for *little* kids. One feels a bit silly handing out lollies to (look-a-like) hookers.

You have valid points, but it just seems misbalanced to me what families with 5 kids versus families with 0 kids pay. AND I do have kids in school as well as my fiance being a schoolteacher. So I am very unbiased to say the least.

Don't get me started. I am already pissed about all of the Halloween scrooges around Houston. I bitched earlier about how about a dozen houses were handing out candy out of about 200 or so that we drove by and how we had to go to the store and BUY CANDY cuz the kids barely got any fucking candy.
SO HERE GOES: IF PARENTS ARE OUT WITH THEIR KIDS, HOW THE FUCK ARE THEY GOING TO GET ANY CANDY IF PEOPLE WITHOUT KIDS DON'T HAND IT OUT?
Think about it! If most parents are out trick or treating with their kids, then the parents are not at home to hand out candy. In other words, we rely on cool people most of them childless or their kids too old to trick or treat, who like to see kids in halloween shit and give them a piece of candy to put a smile on their face.
How hard is it to buy a 5$ bag of candy and hand it out to some kids who just want to have a good time?
As you can see, I'm pissed. When I was a kid, almost every house in town passed out candy. People are just too damn absorbed in whatever nowadays. Oh well.Comment
