Even worse, a large majority of all this takes place in the "Golden Triangle" areas where IV drug use runs rampant. In fact, the hill tribes are so infected now with HIV that they predict that within 8 to 10 years, most of the hill tribes in northern Thailand will no longer exist.
The other problem are the girls (who service tourist) who visit Karaoke bars and PAY THAI MEN TO FUCK THEM. OF course these men do not wear rubbers and the majority of these men are Bi-Sexual... spreading the bug once again to the girls. More girls do this than you know.
So the deal is, YES, HIV is high in Thailand among sex workers but the majority of it is with the sex workers who service Thai men, not foreigners. But it does exist in those areas quite a bit, but not 80%. Based on the number of positive girls we have tested, I would say around 10%.
WITH THAT SAID....
Just 2 - 3 weeks ago they release a report that HIV is on the rise again EVERYWHERE and they are expecting another epidemic equal or worse than what they had in the early 90's. That was a HUGE problem in all areas. So if it's coming back to that, and I know that with the increase of HIV girls we have tested that it is... Thailand is heading for dark days very soon.
In conclusion, just make sure your girl is pretty & young. It is impossible to catch something from a pretty 18 year old.
