Our smallest is 200Kbit/second, which includes both audio and video.

you think a small one is still needed these days to keep retention with those who have 256-512 connections ?

I would think most can download files in the range 90-200 mb for a full lenght. and we do have clips for all movies as well.
Not really sure what to make of it

but hey, life would be to easy without problems lol

we had the discussion of lowest common denominator regarding downloads and came to the conclusion that high-speed is obviously here to stay.

The customers we aim for are not trial customers or one month and gone... we aim for retention. By this logic, they must be able to afford our site long term, they must be able to afford a decent computer setup and a good connection. Therefore we deliver high-res photo and video. Quality beats out everything, every time. Which complaint would you rather hear??? it takes my videos a little longer to load.... or.... that video looks like shit.

I`m with you on the quality thing. it is here to stay and more and more people will get the fast conncetions.
we have 1000-1500 and 2000 kbit now in different formats and we do belive in super nice quality as well.
but as you say, it also depends on who you members are and who you aim for. so comes down to the type of site in terms of content, design, overall feel ect.
