Well I survived 2.5 days without internet, actually it was more than survived, I really enjoyed it! Takig a couple days off now and then may be a good thing after all..
OK the fish story. We caught fish all weekend, not many but it wasnt numbers we were looking for, we were looking for size. I caught a 15lb shark saturday orning, then in the afternoon one of the guys on the pier landed a 53 lb Cobia.
About an hour after that a friend and I were sitting watching our baits swim in circles when this monster cobia comes up and just inhales my bait, from seeing other big cobia we knew this was the fish of the lifetime and she had my hooks in her mouth, the fight was on, she was easily 85 lbs if she was a pound, mike thought she might even be over 100lbs!
I fought her about an hour, she took 350 of 400 yards of line and was still going when i looked down and saw a knot in the last 50 yrds on the reel, I about cried right there, I was in trouble and I knew it.
The people out there being the great ppl they are all gathered around and cheered me on while trying to figure out what to do. Big mike as we call him helped me keep the tip up while someone else locked the spool down, the fsh was so big I couldnt do anything but just hold on, I couldnt hold the fish, if mike didnt help me keep the rod tip up she took me to the rail of the pier and I couldnt stop her, this was one monster fish.
Big mike and I worked on her for another half hour or so when just as quickly as she had gulped up my bait, she was gone. I pulled up the hooks looked at them and it was immediate apparent what had happened, she had straightened out 4X strong hooks with one shake of her head. And it was over.
I spent the next 5 hours sitting on a bar stool trying to lift a glass to my mouth, and could barely do it, I felt like I had been run over by a truck, twice! even now, almost 24 hours later my arms feel like jello.
Damn what a good day!!!
