Not talking about names, I lost respect for another program recently because of this. Why do programs do this? Why arent they rather quiet?
Why do programs post fake stats on GFY?

Sam.. I'm only doing 1:1 per raw, - any chance of some advice on how to improve this?Originally posted by sonofsami am converting at 10:1 across the board... 10 signups for every unique
Sure sure.. on the affilate revenue, they seem to be doing better and earning an average of $180K/month.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment

Program post a ratio, affiliate gets dissappointed, program "marketing manager" offer to "help out" with his free website, affiliate gives better spots but become even more dissappointed and move on to another program...and its goes on and on.. same story
Best thing to do is to analyze your own stats once/twice a month and make changes. Its boring, but really worth the few hours spent on it.

I have never posted stats. I think it's vapid. Sometimes we do well other times we are down.. A snapshot tells how things are going at that moment.
Moments change and I'd rather not give affiliates false expectations.

Either I saw those stats before with different numbers or dates or the owner makes some stupid mistake, like Dirty Danza for example. He was talking about 200 sales per day, then once he got mad at one guy and posted a screenshot of 212 sales I think, he told those are the stats for that actual day. Well, he didnt realized it was 8:00 AM in the admin stats, so he would be making 600 sales a day with such numbers until the morning.Originally posted by Rice_Masterhow do you know it's fake

200 would be 20Originally posted by MetaManbecause Evil Chris is an idiot.
his famous:
"200 sales in one day on the hun" thread
and his famous
"convert 1:62 across the board" thread (or he said 1:82 something along those lines)
1:62 would be 1 lucky sale

It draws people to sign up, use their program, and then suddenly they are making money from sales driven to them by people who THOUGHT the ratios were better before sending their traffic. So, in the end, the webmaster gets screwed out of his traffic but must face the "It just doesn't convert well on your traffic it seems criticisms" from the program.Comment

People like evil chris are sad. They run some good sites. Make good money but dont have the brains for good business ethics. They want more and instead of giving support and helping webmasters to make more sales they start lying to attract more noobs. Hey 100 noobs sending 100 hits each = money without working for it.Comment

white trash because I like guns? your an idiot... franck why dont you send some traffic and see for yourself and if you do bad of legit traffic that you convert everywhere else i will eat my words how's that... I will throw in my sig francks bitch... and give all my exits to sponsors of your choice with your ref code for a month... if you think I don't convert ... thats a fair deal...Comment

Haha, why even ask a silly question like this.
If I said I had ratios of 1:75 you'd say O RLY and sign up faster then a speeding fart.
If I said I had ratios of 1:1359871395871365, you'd laugh and go somewhere else.

You definitely convert well my man.Originally posted by RogerVThats what I was thinking? how do you know
I know We convert better than everyone else. If not I'll pay you $100
We're doing well ourselves also.
I don't think programs post fake stats, but they do sometimes post stats that don't accurate reflect the entire program's results.
For instance I may have an affiliate that converts 1:3, I could say that we convert traffic at 1:3 but it's not accurately telling you how well the entire lot of webmasters are converting.Comment

It's all about marketing. Why do most affiliate programs say they have the most unique program out there and then when you go to check them out, they are exactly the same as the thousands out there?
Who really cares anyway? If you think the stats are fake, then they are fake IYO but for everyone person who think stats are faked here on GFY, there is one who will believe it and check the program out. No harm, no foul
We are what we repeatedly do.-AristotleComment

I believe the problem programs have is that affiliates sometimes don't grasp that different traffic sources have vastly different ratios. It is very hard from a program's perspective to answer the question "What are your ratios?" There are just too many factors to give an accurate answer and also too many to believe the answer given. Some factors are:
1. Traffic sources
2. Marketing Methods
3. Promotional Material used
4. Time of day most sales occur
5. A lot of other minute factors -- and also, programs themselves can't get a good indication unless they are looking at figures for 100's of sales.
The problem programs run into is that they have to paint a picture of a better 'conversion ratio' because that is what other programs do. Also, getting on boards boasting of success becomes self-fulfilling. "Oh, that program gets 1000 joins/day. They must be stable and convert well if they are getting that much traffic. I should try them!"
At the end of the day, all that should really matter to affiliates is how much money a program earns them. Choose who you promote based on quality of sites and your earning results. Also, don't send 500 clicks to a program and expect to get 3 sales right away. You have to send 10k's of clicks before you can figure out a real ratio because it is random.Last edited by John Marco; 10-29-2005, 11:41 AM.Comment

good post. people should also know their traffic well enough to guess conversions pretty closely before even sending trafic. guess that takes some time though.Originally posted by John MarcoI believe the problem programs have is that affiliates sometimes don't grasp that different traffic sources have vastly different ratios.
