I know plenty of bodybuilders who lift more like powerlifters, using low reps and high weight and hardly ever do more than 6-8 reps.
The difference with them is that they typically do a wider variety of movements.
High reps can lead to injury.
To the OP - the best way to build muscle is to concentrate on compound movements - squats, deadlifts, bench press, t-bar rows/ bent rows, etc.
Leave all that dumb shit like dumbell flyes to the sissyboys who get dressed up in fancy workout clothes to go to the gym to impress each other.
