My husband, daughter and myself are going to lose everything in this storm. Our place sits just about 100 feet from the ocean in Cancun. We left the area yesterday, but many friends stayed behind. This is a fucked up situation for sure and I can't stop crying thinking about this. We love Cancun, we love living here and we love the people.

I'm sorry for you and your family. Understand that if you have your health and safety the rest can be replaced.
I live not far from the gulf, should this take a straight run at Tampa, I could lose it all too. i accept that and realize that anything I have is just material. Friends and relatives will help out and all will be fine.
You deserve to make more money. I'll help you do that.

We were just able to get ahold of one of our friends in Cancun that lives in our building..a really good guy who had to stay because he runs a hotel that is used for evacuation....anyway, he said that the hotel is flying apart and the back side is getting hit so bad that they had to move everyone to a 'safe' room. He ( a grown 37 year old man) is scared beyond words. He asked us to keep calling him until the cell towers go down.
We feel guily for leaving, but we had to keep ourselves safe. We will go back as soon as possible to see what is left and to help however we can.
We lost any contact with Cancun No cell calls and when we call on a land line, the static takes over. BUT...we can hear someone answer at the other end, so that is a good sign.
We were just able to talk to one of our friends in Cancun, they had to turn on the generators for a few to pump out all the water, so the phones came back on for a few. He said that it is bashing them hard. The storm just hit land near Puerto Morales which means that Cancun may get the storm surge They are having rain at the rate of about an inch per hours and it is expected to dump around 2 feet over the next 2 days...this is really bad.....
