I think it instills a greater sense of confindence in the potential buyer, especially when buying a 'tangible' product - let alone something so expensive.
From my traffic, it seems as though 1 in every 4 sales or so are a phone in order. My conversions are also about 3 times better for sponsors that allow/credit phone orders.
