I can't go anywhere without knowing there is a bathroom there first. I carry around those toilet seat covers with me, because if my stomach doesn't like something I shit all over.

True story. I have IBS and it sucks.

a while ago I heard about an IBS convention to help comfort people with IBS and too show them that there are many others like them. The whole time I was thinking, "Damn a convention with 5,000 people that have to take shits all the time, that could get messy".

my g/f brother had ibs.. he got scoped have you gone that far?, also bacteria can build up in your anus causing ibs like symptoms; they gave me massive doses metronidazole. From what i understand everyone has these bitches in the anus but it bothers some depending on what food they take in.

About 8 years ago I had major stomach problems. I don't even want to go into detail. Anyway, I stopped having dairy products and the symptoms went away. I was tested for lactose intolerance but the tests said I was fine. So I have no idea what was really wrong with me, but kicking dairy really helped. I haven't had a glass of milk since and I'm very picky about cheese. I'll eat pizza, thats about it.

I am curious that you posted it here, as it is a subject best dealt with by mature people, and you're not going to find a lot of them on this board.

The real problem comes not from IBS itself, but from its effect on other agues. For example, I had an old friend from college who had cancer. Combine that with IBS, and you've got little resistence for fighting off other ailments. I had another friend who lost her mother to IBS in and of itself. Listen to your doctors, try not to let it get out of hand. Last thing you need is for the doctor to cut out your asshole when you turn 50 and give you a bag to poop in.

From what my doctors tell me, IBS is not a disease, but a symptom of another problem (much like epilepsy, for example; many things can cause it.)

In some cases, nerves (I think that's what gets me;) or being overweight (ditto;) lactose intolerance; celiac's disease (sp?); or a # of other things. So, the problem the doctor has is first figuring out what irritates you.

then it is something else. you gotta find out what it is.

there are many ppl alergic to wheat and dont know it.

wheat causes the same issue for it for me. if i go extreme and eat plants and nuts for two days i will have normal stool, which is weird.

*edit* the reason is it extreme is because almost every food product has wheat it in. from the breading on my chicken fingers to the muffin i would like to eat, it is everywhere.
