nice tat Im reading a couple of tibetan bon books at the moment by christopher hansard well worth a look if your interested in that sort of thing positive thinking & art of livingOriginally posted by RayVegaFinally broke down got my first. tibetan Buddhist OM Symbol (as opposed to the hindu Aum Symbol people usually see and associate with Indian Buddhists). It's meaning is really not that easily translated into english words since it has many many meanings. However, it basically the eqivalent of the buddhist word for God, however in buddhism there is no "god" per se. Life is controlled by karma and destiny, since your destiny is controlled by your actions towards yourself and others...etc..etc.. the OM sound is also usually used in mantras, that's why you hear buddhists chanting aaaauuuuummmm over and over.
I will probably continue up the arm to complete oM ma Ni padme hUM the most sacred Buddhist mantra.

P.S. Juicy the "reporter" documented the whole thing on video which i'm sure will be posted for those of you who have never seen it done...my bum itchesComment

I guess you would consider me Bon since for the most part, My beliefs follow parts of Gelug, Nyingma, Sakya, and some of Kagyu. bon has been looked as as a separate tradition more recently but it really shares elements of the four so the decision of whether or not to consider what i follow is bon is up to you. For me it is more personal and has no label.Originally posted by MadCatRay, you never answered what tradition you were following.Comment

You know, I guess I've always been a buddhist and just didn't realize it. I began studying Wicca which has a lot of similarities and that lead me to see that my natural beliefs about how the universe works match up almost identically with the Buddhist philosophies.Originally posted by squizzelNice man. Im impressed. What made you decide to become a buddist?Comment

Are there any masters who give bon teachings nowadays ?Comment

There is a temple in queens, and one in manhattan concentrating on bon and in multiple teachings which would suffice but that's way to far from me, I study on my own.Originally posted by MadCatBonpo? Interesting.

I'm working on my next design, a Garuda (Bird type creature) for my upper arm...we'll see. I'm starting with a sketch I found and re-drawing it myself to be like the head with part of the body and feathery/tribal looking streamers that tangle up the shoulder with more color. It's more buddhist inspired art.Originally posted by Wiggleslooks pretty good, now add more and build a full sleeve!
This shit is addictive.Comment

Shadow was actually Mike Vega's idea...he's the tat guru of the family. he's been getting them for years. I do love the way it finishes it off rather than just having black ink.Originally posted by RobbieRyeGood thinking on the red shadow. When it fades a bit, I bet it will look great.Comment
