Why do Firefighters act like their shit doesn't stink?

I am assuming you have never had any of your personal shit on fire. I am sure they will still be "dumber than shit" when you fall asleep with a smoke in your mouth and they safe your ass.

Some fireman certainly have an attitude.

So do some policemen, lawyers, teachers....

There's idiots in every profession. Even internet porn.

It's not the profession, it's the person.

They're about as skilled as construction workers.

I couldn't do their job because it would be boring. I guess if I was suited to construction work, I'd be suited to firefighting. Being called a hero every day might be enough to keep them happy.

But I would not.

Most firefighters are lower class Irish-american who wouldnt amount to anything else if they didnt have the FD to fall back on.

I will never need a fireman. Ever. The odds of a house fire that starts with no warning, and spreads past my ability to deal with it by myself, are so small they're almost zero. If you don't do stupid stuff, like have gasoline-soaked rags lying around, or 1920s wiring, have smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, it's just not going to fucking happen. But because their jobs depend on it, firefighters make a fetish out of petending that instant death lurks for anyone who doesn't give them whatever they want. The politics of closing a firehouse, even if it's not needed, are incredible. They have a really tough union. They're greedy dishonest pigs, and I'll bet they suck each other off in the firehouse at night.

You fag complain, and yet you would never do their job. You have to be in fantastic shape, risk your life for complete strangers and take in toxic chemicals and smoke as part of your job.

When you eventualy need them (and you will) you'll be grateful. I for one don't begrudge paying them good wages for such a shitty job.


But I think the real reason you hate them is they get all the chicks. You fuck socks.

I am a firefighter, and while you think many are uneducated heathens you are completely wrong. Many go through years of schooling over their time as firefighter. There is 10x more to firefighting than what the general public even knows about.


Flashpoints, chemicals, fire movement, etc. Many firefighters risk their lives on the truck by being the first ones in and pulling people from the fire, and you think these men are not heros. You want to know why many firefighters walk around like their shit don't stink? It's because they have probably saved a ton of lives. Most firefighters carry 70-100lbs on their back while running into a burning building, something most people don't have the balls to do. While others are running out they are running in.


We had a house fire yesterday where an elderly womans house caught on fire. She was on oxygen and got out of the house. We had to be careful the oxygen bottles didn't kill us when they exploded. Guess what, the fire wasn't her fault. Shit happens, the gas company is investigating but she had a gas leak in her house, something you would never be able to put out.

Being a firefighter is a thankless job. We deal with people on the worst day of their lives and are constantly under ridicule and the first people to be downsized in a city. Think about how many times you have said thank you to a firefighter, emt or police officer, and I would bet it's probably never. Then rethink your statement about the attitudes.
