BTW nice deal for the "king" when/if he sells it - he just claimed the structure as his own one day, he hasn't paid anything for the rights to use it.

The surfer who is internet savvy enough to use this stuff isn't a surfer who buys porn anyway.
We MIGHT be losing a sale here and there, but nothing serious.
This whole anti-AFF campaign regarding their ads on certain sites is very hypocritical. Most of you don't want them sponsoring anything that gives free porn to surfers, yet half of you support the TGP concept which in itself gives surfers a reason to never buy porn again.
If you are against advertising on torrent sites, then I don't want to see you running TGP's or submitting galleries.Comment

theres a huge difference between legally providing samples and illegally providing full video downloads. its like saying the lady running the sample booth as costco is on the same level as some lady who sticks a whole pack of hot dogs in her purse and doesnt pay for it.The surfer who is internet savvy enough to use this stuff isn't a surfer who buys porn anyway.

Don't be paranoid, there are lots of quick bucks on the internet but none will last. Everyone that spam would kill the internet 4 years ago.

My point was that legit content or not, it all hurts paysite sales the same way. For every one full video torrent there are probably 5,000 galleries. Either you support giving the surfer his free porn fix or you don't. You can't say torrents are killing the industry and then go submit some galleries.Last edited by Matt 26z; 04-28-2007, 08:26 PM.Comment

it just wouldn't work, how could you explain to a member who's paid $30 that they can't download anymore until the next day? without telling them how to get it for free or them kicking off about why they paid u for a service u cant provide? Why dont webmasters try and protect their content better.
Its very easy to block download managers, put daily download limits in place and throttle download speeds to prevent those that are inclined to share from going ballistic on your site.
Its not going to stop everything from getting out but it does make things a lot more troublesome. Your average regular member isnt really going to notice the difference, just those that want it all quick.
And why do websites still think that letting members download all the content to hardrive is a good idea anyway........that one has always baffled me, its not 1998.
some sites i know tried the view only thing a few years ago, not sure how it went, but i don't see any using it now.Comment

Old news. Sealand's been there for ages. It's also dubious that they planned the 'move' for any reason other than publicityComment

Personally i think webmasters should
a) become smarter if people are jacking your shit then you just have to make it harder for them, for example your so worried about your stuff being stolen, yet as far as i know (correct me if im wrong) alot of webmasters dont seem to use Digital rights management, if you did then most of the stuff ppl put on free hosts would be of no use as ppl who downlod them would have the correct licence to play them
b) i also think you need to worry less about the free file hosts and more about ppl cracking paswords, because alot of the sites out their dont have any sort of decent protection against bruteforce cracks, some sites are so easy to crack that its a joke. hell some sites that use ccbill dont even password protect their log files so they are available for anyone to download and crack the encyption, and once ytou have done that you have a full list of all the usernames and passwords for that site.
so basically in my humble opinion, instead of bitching about sites such as piratebay and free file hosts, webmasters need to get smarter and do more to protect their content.Last edited by rotowa85; 04-29-2007, 02:46 AM.Comment

one other thing, if you are so worried bout ppl stealing your stuff here is an idea lower your prices.
I mean take your average surfer who may come across your site and see that he has to pay $30 a month, he may turn around and say nah screw that and then look for places he can get it for free, on the other hand if he came to your site and saw that it was $15 a month he would be more inclined to just pay for it.
also sites like kates playground which charge you to become a member, but then make you pay again to download the best content (zip sets). they can just expect ppl to steal their content and put it up on free hosts and personally i think they shouldnt complain about it. it is my opinion that what they do is tantamount to making someone pay $10 so watch a film then making them pay an extra $10 to watch the endComment

The answer is to put preasure on ICANN or/and RIPE to shut down ISPs that support piracy. An obligation of every Internet Provider would be to cut off their users who share anything. You wouldn't need cooperation between countries if you apply this model. Is this possible to achieve?---

I think this becoming less and less true at an alarming rate. It's like .mp3s at the beginning only tech types knew how to get them but nowadays everyone and his dog does it. Hell one of my parents knows how to do it! Search google for just about any combination of sitename videos and you'll get a shitload of torrent sites on the first page. Couple of clicks and the files on its way down. Too too easy.

Matt, giving away small samples (less than 30 pics, less than a coupe of minutes of video) cannot be compared to giving away entire site rips, complete episodes, etc. You are talking about the difference between giving away 1% (a taste) versus giving away 100% (the whole f'n deal). My point was that legit content or not, it all hurts paysite sales the same way. For every one full video torrent there are probably 5,000 galleries. Either you support giving the surfer his free porn fix or you don't. The movie industry has been making trailers for 50+ years. Are you suggesting that a 1 minute trailer for a movie is bad for business?
Your logic fails.Comment

Nearly everybody I grew up with used to buy music albums. Now maybe 5% of them do, because it's available for free. The music industry is a shadow of its former self.
