problem viewing some divx files on my phillips dvd player

does anyone else who has the model that plays divx files ever run into this? sometimes i download movies and they are all digital looking. it used to be real rare but have been running into more of them lately. is it because of a codec my dvd player doesn't have maybe?

    yeah...
probably cause the vids are being encoded with the newest xvid codec... and QPEL..
you'll have to reencode 'em in standard divx..

If you're going to reencode them you might as well make them standard DVD video. I use a program called neoDVD that quickly and simply makes a TS_Video folder out of whatever video file I throw at it (including avi, mpeg, wmv, qt, rm, etc.) then burn the contents of that folder using Nero (but once you have a TS_Video folder whatever software came with your burner should have a selection to burn DVD video files).

ahh, but if you reencode them, then you can no longer get 22 half hour episodes on a single disc
at least, not at the same quality!

yeah, the ones that cause problems are xvids. will converting them to divx make em bigger? usually i can find another version that works eventually. downloaded and watched the 40 year old virgin last night. gotta love the net.

My philips dvd divx player sucks. It skips half the time even on regular dvds. I'm not happy with it but for $80 I can't really complain.

You can fix that problem where the picture is fucked up BlackCrayon. The trick is to hit the system button 2 times.

As for QPEL.. it just wont play at all if its encoded that way.

they might not be the best. i just bought it because of the divx feature. i've noticed mine skips when family guy has music in it (no idea why). haven't noticed it doing that otherwise.
