Right, there is no host that can offer this price without overselling the hell out of the bandwith or scamming their clients. If its too good to be true it usually is

We have never maxed out our connections (much less gone past 90%) and we have a system in place (due to our location in Equinix) to add new lines to our providers rather quickly (a few business days usually). If we have to, we will throw your data on our premium network until we can get that line up. All of our "value network" customers fallover to the premium network lines (Savvis and Level 3) if something happens to the Cogent/nLayer/Beyond the Network lines anyways.

We guarantee every packet you send out goes out. If we guarantee you 100mbps, you can go 100mbps at any point for as long as you want. We have customers doing it now.

And if that doesn't clear up the question, I'll put cash behind it.

If we can't provide you with the full line during your first month of service, I'll give you your money back.

Note: The terms of the money back means that there is something with our network that is limiting it (aka the lines were maxed out and you were prevented from sending data to clients, not that your server wasn't tuned/didn't have enough traffic to fill the line.) The Money Back offer is a refund for the amount of time you didn't use during the first month... any special orders/setup fees may not be refundable so ask first, if you have questions please contact [email protected] for more details or post your question in this forum.

Come on, i buy huge amounts of bandwith and have cages in 2 equinix datacenters and i know you cant offer $1200 for a server and 100mbs of non oversubscribed bandwith. You have to be buying Massive amounts of bandwith to even come close break even on that deal, let alone be able to afford your own routers and switches to deliver the bandwith. Cage space, racks and power in equinix are not cheap, so why can you offer it so much cheaper than the rest that are running hosting companies out of the equinix datacenters? Just Doesnt make sense

Cogent publicly says they cost $10/mbps... That server doesn't cost $200/month even with switches/routers/etc. I can't state the prices of the other lines, but you should be able to get the picture.

I will admit, however, that the customers who have this plan and are only using 20mbps of it are the ones who are making us the most money, but even if you use the full line we still make something and are able to increase our commit to our providers.

But I don't really think I can convince you. That's fine, obviously your hosting needs are being met.

As for the other question: We don't offer commits under 20mbps. We would be competing with many of our customers if we did that. Shoot me an email ([email protected]) and I can get you in touch with someone.

I'm not that tech savvy, so i'm just wondering - can one single server actually handle 100 mbps traffic? That's about 30,000GB's a month - around 650k uniques/day and 6.5 million pageviews/day.

All depends on the content. If you're serving one gallery which is completely cached in RAM you could just pull it off. No way you can pull 100Mbps off of one single (S)ATA harddrive if you have hundreds of gallery all being accessed at more or less the same time. You'd probably be able to do 30-50Mbps though so not all is lost there.
Running a TGP or something with dynamic content won't even get you near 100Mbps simply because the server is not powerfull enough for that

We have many clients doing it.

Although many of those are hosting very large files (videos and such) isntead of images. Getting 100mbps for smaller content such as images is going to be difficult.
