WWII is a liitle more complicated, Iīm afraid. The "Hitler - Stalin - Pakt" (for more information read here Hitler Stalin Pakt) devided Eastern Europe into Russian and German parts. When the Russians invaded Poland in 1939 the Germans agreed that all Baltic States becamepart of the Russian sphere of influence. Wide sections of the population were deported to camps in Siberia and Central Asia. Thousands tried to escape in little boats across the baltic Sea to Sweden. Thatīs why there were many partisan groups and thatīs why many of them joined the German Army when Germany declared war to Russia btw. the Soviet Union.

Thatīs not all of history , of course. But maybe youīll see why they did remove the monument. It has nothing to do with them being National Socialists.
