Why doesn't everyone use wmv?
I noticed most TGP posters out there don't use wmv. I'm about to get into the submission game myself and tried mpeg versus wmv. So far there is absolutely no comparison. Do most TGPs just not allow wmv or am I missing something?

I can fit in a 640x480 20 second clip into the same file size as an mpeg file with only half the resolution and 25% less quality.. just seems silly to use mpeg.Last edited by Winterverse; 04-25-2007, 09:54 PM.Comment

jesus, what macs are you all running that have issues with WMV's? LOL
i didn't think wmv had issues since osx came out, I don't have wmv issues on my mac ibook
and whoever said mpeg uses less bandwidth must not know how to encode a wmv properly, wmv has BY FAR the best compression
as for tgp's, i heard once that tgp's require for the video files to be a minimum of 2mb...if that is true than there is your reason, wmv can be full screen and less than 2mbComment

mpeg.........you can watch in any machine...........but for wmv u need plugin to see beside Windows

From a webmaster-to-user point of view, wmv isn't bad. If you know what you are doing you can keep the filesize low and the quality decent enough (for galleries and things like that).
From a webmaster-to-webmaster porint of view, I prefer huge mpeg's over wmv's. Yes, I know most noob-affiliates prefer wmv's they can just chop into little pieces but real webmasters ofcourse know how to encode stuff themselves
From a user point of view, I HATE WMV. The quality doesn't even come close to for example Xvid (in an avi container).Comment

wmv's are still a windows media format, and even thought they're more widely accepted than they have been in the past, they're still very much more limited than some other formats, such as mpeg.
Even if it's only a small % that can't get wmv's to play right, it's still a %.Comment

It's pretty simple, I can view mpeg through my browser. It plays it right there in a program i already have open. When I click on a wmv from a gallery, it has to download the wmv to my computer then open it with wmp. So I now have a video file on my computer which has to be manually removed later. PLUS wmp has to open up to run the file.
WMV is fucking annoying plain and simple.
