All fighters have their good and bad nights. If his knee and ankle don't hurt today and nothing is torn, he's very lucky.
On an unrelated note, I learned a lot about how important a person's ground game is while watching the first fight of the night. That Kongo guy was a stellar kickboxer but couldn't do ANYTHING while on the ground. If I was coaching him, I wouldn't let him fight any worthy opponents without getting some serious ground game training in beforehand.
