I don't think many people "hate" the United States' citizenry, but rather many dislike the US Government's foreign policy. The US government has a very back track record in world affairs.
For example, the US government has funded militias and wars (Iran Contra, Iraq/Iran War, Mujadeen, etc) which in turn caused a lot of problems. Basically, the US Government has no respect for its citizens and proves it time and again.
I mean, the government doesn't listen to the people at all and doesn't even function properly. Why does the CIA conduct secret missions to overthrow governments? That isn't part of the US Constitution, yet this behavior happens... A government agency shouldn't be conducting wars without the peoples' knowledge, or the Congress' knowledge.
I personally have no respect for any world governments and think they are all controlled by criminals.
