I was actually thinking alog the same line except I wouldn't say Americans are pussies. Those kids could atleast throw their chairs at him instead of throwing it on themselves as cover.. but that's a technical school.. most students were likely sorta nerds so heroism is almost unexpectable from them. If it happened in some Physical Ed class instead you'd probably see plenty of the kinda heroism you are talking about from the very American kids.
