360 is better simply because of the versatility with windows and it's communication ability. Someday we will make video phone calls on that shit for free.
I have both. I personally like the Xbox 360 better right now. More games, better functionality, and I too like the controllers better. The PS3 does have a nice list of games coming in the future though and I think that will save the console from becoming just a hunk of junk in the long run. Right now though. I would tell you to go with the Xbox 360
There's not really any better games out right now on the PS3.
360 has the best games out there right now, and the multiplatform titles are almost all better on the 360. Hopefully by the end of the year PS3 will have some better stuff out. Right now they are really in a drought.
Xbox 360 Premium. You can find them new/refurb for like $350-$375 these days. Cheaper than PS3, much larger game selection, higher quality in many games of the same name (Marvel Ultimate Alliance, etc.).
I just got a 360 here (thank you python.com) but in the last few weeks I'd lean towards PS3. A number of game studios have come out saying that they will start making games for PS3 first, because it's easier to port them to 360 after, than to go the other way around. This means they will probably be better optimized for PS3 than the other way around.
Get the 360 it's online features are superior and the game library is already huge and getting bigger all the time. There is only a select few games that will be exclusive to the PS3 but many more for the 360. Microsoft got it right this time around and with the 360 you won't be sorry.

Indeed 360 + COD3 I give out free tea bags all night

Plus it has HDMI and Blu-Ray.
lol it was one company factor 5 that said that because they are making a PS3 only title they sort of have to say nice things and companies like Capcom are leaning very heavily towards the 360. It's the place to be for games right now.

Ya, I agree. For the most part, all the multiplatform titles so far have been developed with the 360 and PC in mind, with the PS3 getting the shittiest ported version with the poorest frame rate. There are one or two exceptions, but that is about it.
I have the 3 new ones and I would say buy the 360 for sure...its the gamers system. Graphics are just as good, FAR more games, Halo 3, it also works very well as a media center when networked to a PC. If you play online xbox live is far superior.
By the way I used to be the biggest playstation fan around, I got a free 360 and think it kicks major ass.
I'm a serious gamer and have every consol and handheld out there. I play between 1-3hrs every day. ( geek i know, but its my daily release from nscash lol ) Between the two its a tough call. Presently the 360 has more games that you and the kids are going to want to play. I just got Guitar Hero II a few days ago and its been the new flavor, Lego Star Wars 2 etc. Plenty of games for the kids and you to enjoy right now. Plus the online action is there, where the others lag hard. I'll blow threw a game in a week but then sign on to live and blamo replay value.
But then you have the whole Blue Ray DVD hook that the PS3 touts... And they very well should, I've never seen a dvd look so crisp and yummy in my life. (if you have one get Underworld) BUT NO GAMES!!!
I've been a big Sony fanboy for years but god damn did they drop the ball on the release of the PS3. MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man are the only games I play on it and neither are for your youngling's.
My call... Find a Wii!
Kids will dig all the platformers, Cooking Mama, Warioware and its just flat out friggn fun to play. Their online virtual store is kickass with some sweet retro hits from the past.
If the Wii isn't an option and your getting the new toy for (YOU) get the 360.
ps: buy the composite or hdmi cables to for the system you choose - its night and day

Wii, no way - tried it and didn't like it. Besides, I don't like that my kids play too much games - I got them a VTech/Smile for them + gameboy.
For the other kid in the family, ME, it will be a question of better games etc. I might just do both just for the hell of it. Wife will be very happy of course...
That said, I am a HALO type of game fan and not into sport games. Some great feedback here.

If you are a shooter fan the 360 is the place to be. They are the only system that will have halo3 and they now have Gears of war(Best looking console game out right now for any system) Call of duty 3(Great game especially when you can get 12 on 12 games going) Lost planet(Great sci-fi shooter) here is a list of the 1st person shooter for the 360 and a list for the ps3

The PS3 has come with HDMI from the start. The PS3 you can replace the hard drive with any SATA notebook drive. The so called Elite still doesn't come with wi-fi. So add another $100 if you want that and no HD-DVD player add another $200. Not much of a bargin if you ask me. If you want to have portable storeage you can use Memory Stick, SD, CompactFlash. PS3 outputs all the way to 1080p, 360 does not. Also you can use a USB keyboard and mouse with it. Especialy helpful if you decide to surf the net with your PS3.

The "elite" Xbox 360 is a horrible deal. On this we agree What they should have did is reduce the Premium by $50, and make the elite @ the current price, OR included a HD-DVD drive built in then charged the price they are charging now for the elite.

Now if it would only get some games that the 360 isn't getting on a regular basis I hope the ps3 improves but right now it's just not worth it. I want a game maching and don't care about the hd movies right now. PS3 fucked up by adding the blueray. It really wasn't needed and is just a money grab by sony. Not that I blame them as they are a business. It was just the wrong move on thier part.
I have the 360 and hardly use it.. If you want it, hit me up.. I have I think 5 games with it and wireless controls....I am sure I could use the money for my golf lessons...

The 360 does do 1080p. The wireless adapter is over priced. You're better off just getting a wireless access point for $50, works just as well.
at the time, i was working at a large store as PC sales. I had a 360 on Launch date (actually I bought 4, as the discount I got meant I could sell the other 3 on ebay at a premium and basically get mine for free)
Xbox Live carries the 360 IMO without it, its just another console. I had an Xbox1 since launch, so PS2/3 pads just feel 'wrong'.
My older bro won a PS3 through a local radio show and he got it the other day, and all Ive had from him is a text saying "this is awesome" lol But I don't live near enough to go have a go
If your loaded and play offline - PS3
If your not loaded and wanna play online - Xbox 360
Oh and its free to download WMV-HD movies, and then stream through Connect-360 or from DL DVD's. Blue Ray is expensive as fuck, so if you already have a nice HD tv, go 360.
Got them both, I play the xbox 360 and watch blueray on the PS3, 360 rules at the moment, but the ps3 will have a longer lifespan since it's alot faster.
Blueray on full HD is so fucking sweet.
Well it is my opinion that the games feel faster, not saying that the xbox isn't fast thou, but when rendering at 1920x1080p I think the PS3 has alot smoother graphics.

With the lack of aa and af on the PS3, 'smoother' isn't even possible when comparing game for game on each system.
