Even if it doesn't need to be real estate--it could be. And no, you don't have to work your butt off if you buy a condo that is professionally managed by the homeowner's association. New condos are the way to go. AND . . . you obviously get the tax deduction on mortgage interest--something self-employed people just gotta have. If you rent, you need to buy.

However . . . for non-investment . . . why not spend some money trying to learn how to fly airplanes?

Why not buy business class tickets instead of the cheapest out there?

And most of all . . .

. . . why not learn about wine and build a cellar?
